Time Travel!
Gayle has taken a bit of artistic license with an oft-told legend from our youth, but the essential elements remain true and are, in fact, enhanced by her skillfull narrative. Not to mention great pictures of the old spooky place in both its past and present glory.
"The Flame Room" was a wonderful, raunchy old bar whose atmosphere was enhanced by the fact that, directly across the street was the sprawling campus of the San Antonio State Hospital, or as Mr. McLemore pointed out, in those days, "The San Antonio Lunatic Asylum". It was all too easy to imagine escapees from SASH wandering the grounds at Hot Wells. Lord, how we loved to scare ourselves silly, er, sillier!
