Sandy's Spring Break

My son, Sandy, went with his dad to Texas' beautiful Big Bend National Park last week for his spring break and, by all accounts, had a great time in spite of (perhaps even because of) some challenging weather conditions. Here are a few pix his dad sent me yesterday:

And, the object of their hiking and searching:

Thanks heydave! You and your boys would enjoy Big Bend. I hope you get there one of these days!

Wow... beautiful sky, rugged terrain, no people... looks like all the ingredients for a great camping trip.

You would love it, FW - Come on down!

So glad to see they're enjoying the incredible country that is a long, long drive through wilderness to get to. Went by last June, and plan to go back for a birdwatching raft trip, in some time of year that isn't 110F during the heat of the day.

We love big bend. But I didn't know there were primitive drawings. Where are they?

That is, apparently Donna, a very closely guarded secret! Even if I wanted to, I couldn't begin to tell you. I know that Sandy's dad did a lot of research, and managed to get some pretty specific directions, but even with those they had a pretty difficult time. Sandy is the one who finally found them! Can you imagine? What an adventure! Big Bend is so beautiful and I went once, when I was in college - but I'm way too old and out of shape to do it justice now. 'Bout all I could handle now is sitting on the Lodge deck with a pair of binoculars and ordering margaritas. I'm very grateful that my ex is still willing and able to do this with our boys.

Wow! That's really neat. I've not been out to Big Bend yet. My wife and I went to Fort Davis once before the kids were born. I'd love to go out there when they get just a bit older.
