Update on Sanford

Snark mode off. Really sad. Seems like he did the best he could, under the circumstances.

ENHANCED UPDATE: Freewheel and Mike bemoan the absence of snark. I should clarify that I don't actually feel sorry for the guy, I just heard his speech and it made me feel sad and it seemed to me that he did what he had to do. OTOH, Sandy Underpants expresses sentiments that I totally relate to.

No snark? :(

Yeah, uncharacteristic, innit!

It seems to me like Sanford was doing his best to come clean. I'd be more snarky if he were still trying to cover-up, but that doesn't look like the case here. His political career is probably over - no point in piling on, I say.

I don't know much about him, but right away I wondered how much pro-marriage, family values preachin' he did during his campaign.

That's the problem with us bleeding heart liberals. We finally get the opposition down where we can strike and suddenly we start to feel sorry for them. Damn that empathy thing!
You know that Republicans wouldn't be having this problem if Gov. Sanford were a Democrat.
But remember, he's not just a run-of-the-mill Republican. He is a right-wing evangelical Holier-than-thou theocrat who was gearing up to run for president in 2012/2016.
Now he is finished. But there will no doubt be more to take his place in line.
And, by the way, unlike Spitzer, he still hasn't resigned yet.
IMPEACH!!!!

Nuh-uh. Sure, maybe he shouldn't be remembered for his worst moment, but tell me again what his best moments were?

I'll not laugh when he's dead, that's when the matter moves on.

You're absolutely right Mike. While in Congress, Sanford voted to impeach Clinton.

These are the same people who passed DOMA to "protect" marriage. Maybe they can figure out a way to blame their marital infidelity on gays.
