SOTU

I don't think I can bring myself to watch the SOTU in real time tonight, but I might engage in something I call the "preemptive drinking game" in which I drink according to what I anticipate the talking points are going to be. On that basis, I might be passed out before the speech even begins.

UPDATE: I feel like Cuba Gooding Jr: SHOW ME THE MONEY!

UPDATE 2: Apparently, Alito made an ass of himself during last night's event. What a surprise. Thanks George W. Bush!

I am trying in real time to watch this thing, but I am giving up on the idiots and talking heads and reading a book. The Ultimate volume of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, leather bound, WITH ribbon bookmark.

Thank you, but that's where I'm at tonight.

Defense of bailout: weak.

Across-the-board cuts that ignore DOD excesses: very weak.

Showing the GOP who's in charge: not bad.

I couldn't watch. I fear that Obama wants so much to be loved by the other side that he is throwing everything overboard for that love. They'll always hate him, and he's just continuing to alienate the people who got him in. Without opening anything, I skimmed Huffington Post this morning. Lots of references to Reagan, great! Obama will be remembered as the Great Capitulator.

The GOP's in charge with a supermajority of 41% in the Senate, and Obama still wants bipartisanship.
Congress and the White House, on a political calculation, are going to tack far right in the lead-up to the elections, at which point the GOP will attack the Dems Leninist agenda, bringing us still further right. We're as doomed as doomed can be.

I did watch, and am impressed with the steely determination. Nope, do not accept the now constant accusation that the pres. has given up, but do agree with him, that they had no idea the degree to which the right would sacrifice the public interest it's sworn to protect.
