My pragmatic side was telling me that it might be worth keeping Lieberman in the Democratic fold on the grounds that his vote could at some point make a difference in passing some key part of Obama’s agenda. But after reading that WaMo piece by Benen, there is no way in Hell he is going to keep that committee chairmanship. The fact that Reid is willing to give Lieberman a subcommittee chair is extremely generous and something he would be a fool to pass up. As someone else pointed out, even Hillary Clinton doesn’t have a chairmanship because of the seniority requirements. Lieberman should accept Reid’s offer and thank his lucky stars. If he switches parties, his already slim chance of holding his seat four years from now would fall to zero.

There's still the very strong possibility that Reid will be bullied,even from his position of strength. We've seen it happen before.
