"Debates"

I didn't watch them, did you? I'm afraid I anticipated the worst, and from what I can tell by a cursory exploration of responses around the blogosphere, "the worst" is what it was. Will Bunch (H/T Crooks and Liars) seems to have captured the prevailing sentiment best. So I wondered, Did anyone out there actually like this show? And, lo and behold, John Cole has the answer.

UPDATE: I just sent another $50 to Obama's campaign. November cannot. get. here. soon. enough.

Was there a debate last night? I was too busy watching the Spurs game.
Frankly, we've had far too many Democratic primary debates and they have devolved into the spectacle last night where George Stephanopoulos, channeling Sean Hannity, hounded Obama about inane, trivial B.S. straight from the GOP oppo research department.
There should be no more debates and Hillary needs to get the hell off the stage. Please Pennsylvania. Do us all a favor and give Hillary the hook!

Holy Jumpin' Jehoshaphat, am I glad I went out last night. The things I read about that non-event reinforce my idea of beating Gibson about the head and shoulders with Steph-nops tied to a stick.

It was a travesty. ABC should be ashamed of itself. I swear, it felt as though George and Charlie had gone to their bosses and said, "Oh please can we moderate the debate. Please, please, please?" and then thought up the twelve stupidest questions they could think of. Almost all of the ridiculous questions went to Obama (no questions about NAFTA, Colombia, or lobbyists to HRC, for example), and Gibson kept interrupting him. The worst question of the night: Is Rev. Wright as patriotic as you are? WTH?

If they wanted to explore the tabloid aspect of the campaign, they should have gone after both of them. The better course, obviously, would have been a set of questions on matters of substance.

Well thank God I didn't watch it. I just got a new TV and I doubt it would have survived the event.

I saw enough of it to tell you that ABC should never be trusted to host a debate again. Think of all the trivial, stupid questions that they might have asked, and you can be sure that they did: flag lapel pins, Bosnia sniper fire, Rev. Wright, the "bitter" comment, supporters who said stupid things, ad nauseum.
