Bracing for the storm

Ike is bearing down on the Texas coast and it looks like we inland folks in the hill country might even get some pretty heavy wind and rain, or so the current weather chatter holds. We shall see.

Kudos to Mike for deconstructing the old "socialist" tripe trope. Good job!

And as sick-to-death as I am of Palinapalooza, I must pass along this great link sent to me this morning by our good pal, heydave. Thanks heydave!

It's 9/11. I'm not much for Memorials, but I can't let the day pass without sending out heartfelt good wishes to all those who lost family and friends on this horrible day seven years ago. May all our fallen countrymen rest in peace, and may the world forgive us for our tragically misguided response in the years since. (H/T to Barbara O'Brien at Mahablog for that first link.)

Out here in the Hill Country hinterlands, I don't have to much in common with the oil company retirees from Houston, or the flinty old ranchers who still speak fluent German, or the busybody bible-thumpers. But we do have the telephone and electric Co-Ops in common. You see, we're all part owners. Yeah! We all own the utilities together! Never hear them complain though, ...bloody socialists!

Looks like it's predicted to turn northeast, but poor Galveston!
