I have thought for a long time that Obama's appeal was his pitch that Americans actually share a lot of values -- we have forgotten that in the cacophany of ideological screeds. But we have polled that way for year -- a majority of us favor reproductive rights, a majority of us want the environment addressed, a majority of us believe we need to disengage in Iraq, a majority of us want some sort of health care plan.
In 2004, I think fear kept us from acting on these shared goals. But it's not 2004 anymore.
I also think that the majority of us aren't racist a-holes, but down here in Redneck Heaven, Texas, it's sometimes easy to forget that. Thanks, Donna! Good to see you back, BTW!
