I don't think this has much to do with the true state of their mental health. One thing I've noticed is that, generally speaking, republicans tend to be optimist, while democrats are pessimists. That's why republicans generally think Ayn Rand had some really neat views, while Democrats think she's the devil. It's why we believe that most people are capable of being productive, and have a responsibility to provide for themselves, while Democrats believe that most people are helpless, and must be "cared for" by society.

Thank you Alex! I wanted to say just that, but was having writer's block and couldn't figure out the best way to word it.
You are exactly right. I would also point out that we see this in the differing tone of left-wing vs. right-wing blogs.
Consider Kos, the biggest left-wing blog, and biggest blog period. It's very angry, abusive, and crude as are most left-wing blogs.

Yeah, we lefties are "angry, abusive, and crude" but righties have Teh Stupid on their side!
Angry, Abusive, and Crude - Oh My! (On a side note, did anyone else watch The Tin Man last night? We were underwhelmed.)

Yeah, it's pretty "neat" to have a philosophy that allows you to be super-selfish and disregard the problems of everyone else on the planet.
Poor Bill. This is the level of comments he gets at his blog these days. Alex is really too dense to have a coherent discussion with. Otter is a complete buffoon and the new guy "big dan", well, let's just say that he makes Alex and Otter look intellectually astute by comparison.
As for Kos being "angry, abusive and crude", Bill only knows this because Bill O'Reilly tells him so. It's not like he's actually ever spent any time reading DK posts for himself.
Wow, we are angry, abusive and crude?!
Guess they don't watch much Bill O'Reilly or visit FreeRepublic.com and read those gems there. Maybe they should read some Ann Coulter - "we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." Or maybe listen to some Pat Robertson lie and say that he DIDN'T say this about Hugo Chavez - "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war." Advocating killing and lying is something that Jesus would do, right? Hey how abou the time Bill O said about Al Franken that if they were in the Old West, he, "woulda put a bullet right between his head"
You gotta love these crazy wing nuts! Yeah, we're angry abusive and crude ;-)
I watched Tin Man last night and enjoyed it. But then, I'm a pushover for these kinds of shows. Anything that gets television away from the reality show garbage they are currently churning out is OK with me.
The thing I still don't get is how come the Outer Zone (OZ) is a weird mix of advanced technology (android parents, holographic imaging) and low tech (the hero wields an old timey six-shooter he has to constantly reload (where does he find all his bullets?) and they get around in a broken down old jalopy).
It kind of reminds me of "The 10th Kingdom" , another flawed but enjoyable Sci-Fi Fantasy TV miniseries from a while back.
"Poor Bill" my ass! (Why stray from a perfectly good stereotype?) You are too generous, Mike - Get with the program: More angry! More abusive! More crude!
Seriously, you know darn well that this is the level of comments that Bill has deliberately chosen for his blog, the level that he is most comfortable with. It is truly sad and pathetic, but there you go.
Yeah, Ricky, there's no beating wingnuts for flaming hypocrisy, is there?
Ricky Bones stole my thunder. Aside from angry and abusive, to be conservative Republican you have to be a hater - the type of person who doesn't want a penny extra spent on S-Chip and thinks we should nuke Iran.
I agree, people are not inferior, but superior. Every American should have everything.
